The double bass player and singer, Irina-Kalina Goudeva, was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She studied double bass with prof. Todor Toshev at the Sofia State Conservatory (graduated in 1990 with Golden Medal and a full merit) and Franco Petracchi at the Geneva Conservatory of Music (receiving the First Virtuoso Prize in 1993).

While pursuing her activities as a principal player in orchestras such as the Young World Orchestra, Ars Musica Chamber Orchrestra (Sofia, Bulgaria), Simphonietta Lausanne, Orchestre de Chambre de Neuchâtel (both in Switzerland), and the Orchestra of the Royal Danish Theatre (Copenhagen), she has always found great inspiration in chamber music an collaborated with many ensembles such as “Ensemle 415”, “Swiss Consort”, “Kordepan” in Switzerland and “Aphrodisiac” in Denmark.
Eclectic, Irina-Kalina experiments with cross-over between different genres of music and has with equal intensity devoted herself to music from renaissance and baroque to modern tango, jazz and electro acoustic music.
She also incorporates her contralto voice as an integral part of the performance, thus adding a new dimension to the expressivities of her instrument.
Her passion for contemporary music connected her to ensembles such as “Contrechamps” (Switzerland), “Athelas Sinfonietta” (Denmark) and since 1998 she is a solo double bass player at the Contemporanea Interactive Art Ensemble in Copenhagen (Denmark). A part from staging “traditional” concerts with contemporary music, the ensemble often includes visual and verbal aspects as theatrical performance and poetry and in preference stages concerts in unusual surroundings. The musicians of the ensemble frequently take part in international and experimental theatre projects, in which they participate both as musicians and actors, as a kind of integrated performance. In this contexts Irina-Kalina created in may, 2004 the spectacle- concert “Lavarayaha which she performed in many countries in Europe till now, as well as the music – theatre performance “The Seventh Woman”, which will be premiered in may, 2005 in Copenhagen, then presented both shows in Europe, USA.

In 2004 Irina-Kalina released her first solo CD “Irina-Kalina Goudeva – voice and double bass” containing contemporary (acoustic and electro- acoustic ) music and she is planning a second one in year 2006,which will premiere 10 pieces, written for her from the composers Julia Tzenova, Fuzzy, Lars Graugaard, Kim Helweg, Lars Hegaard, Jexper Holmen, A prize - winner of several international and national competitions (among others Special Prize of the Jury – at “Giovanni Botstein”, Parma, Italy; First Prize and Gold Medal at “Svetoslav Obretenov”, Provadia, Bulgaria and First Prize at “Stefan Gougarev”, Kjustendil, Bulgaria) Irina-Kalina has performed as a soloist and recitalist in Bulgaria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Australia, South America, Cuba, USA.
